As an artist/archivist Ruth Cross avidly collects letters written by the public to their future selves in writing desk installation Post Present Future. As well as her solo work she facilitates collaborative experiments sparking performance and art explosions. Ruth is the Artistic Director of Cross Collaborations; a feisty collective of artists and performance makers interested in working across visual arts, dance, writing, sonic art, parties, installation and experimental immersive theatre. They use site based locations to conjure unique experiences for audience. Passionate and about making work that responds to the chaotic world we live in, they devise from found objects, food and letters collected in Post Present Future. They aim to amuse, delight and transport.
Cross Collaborations are currently in rehearsal for a new one on one performance series developed from Post Present Future - the writing desk installation.

I stumbled upon an old Post Office in Hackney recently with a temporary exhibition called Posted. In one of the pieces Tracy Emins writes:
"All my life I have written letters -
I am passionate about it. its like having a diary that goes out into the world.
Letters seem to exist in another dimensions
some of my most intimate thoughts have been put down on paper and sealed up in an envelope -
sent off into the ether - Its my way of expressing myself -
It makes me calm almost content.

Post Present Future - In The Flesh - Saturday 26th February
From 7pm onwards
Please take delight in sitting at the writing desk in the bar to write a letter to your future self... followed by a unique treat for one audience member at a time, experience a snippet of letter based performance in the office upstairs.
Audience feedback from Pilot Nights 25/01/2011
Really beautiful, simple idea that was extremely thought provoking to engage in. Feel really excited about receiving my letter! Also very engaging listening to the performers read their own letters... would be interesting to hear performers of different ages doing this. Less sure about how the company would use the letters to make a full length piece and wonder whether it needs this or what they are doing is enough as it works so well.
